PROSTRATE CANCER:

 

[1]Prostate cancer is cancer that starts in the prostate gland. The prostate is a small, walnut-sized structure that makes up part of a man's reproductive system. It wraps around the urethra. This is the tube that carries urine out of the body.[

[3]What Are the Symptoms of Prostate Cancer?                                                                                                                                                                                                           

There are no warning signs of early prostate cancer. Once a tumor causes the prostate gland to swell, or once cancer spreads beyond the prostate, the following symptoms may happen: 

  • A frequent need to urinate, especially at night

  • Difficulty starting or stopping a stream of urine

  • A weak or interrupted urinary streamLeaking of urine when laughing or coughingInability to urinate standing up

  • A painful or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation

  • Blood in urine or semen 

 

[4]Call Your Doctor About Prostate Cancer If:

  • You have trouble urinating or find that urination is painful or different from normal; your doctor should examine your prostate gland to determine whether it is enlarged, inflamed with an infection, or cancerous.

  • You have chronic pain in your lower back, pelvis, upper thighbones, or other bones. Pain in these areas can be caused by different things, including the spread of prostate cancer.

  • You have unexplained weight loss.You have swelling in your legs.

  • You have weakness in your legs or difficulty walking, especially if you also have constipation.

What diseases can you get from smoking? Smoking is also a contributory factor for the development of cancers of the bladder, pancreas, and kidney. Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at an increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), acute respiratory infections, ear problems, and more severe asthma.

COLON/COLORECTAL CANCER:

 

Of cancers affecting both men and women, colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum) is the second leading cancer killer in the United States. In the U.S. in 2010,* 131,607 people were diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and 52,045 people died from it.† CDC helps prevent colorectal cancer by building partnerships, encouraging screening, supporting education and training, and conducting surveillance and research.

 

What Are the Symptoms of Colorectal Cancer?

 

In its In early statges, colorectal cancer usually produces no symptoms. The most likely warning signs include: 

  • Changes in bowel movements, including persistent constipation or diarrhea, a feeling of not being able to empty the bowel completely, an urgency to move the bowels, rectal cramping, or rectal bleeding

  • Dark patches of blood in or on stool; or long, thin, "pencil stools"Abdominal discomfort or bloating

  • Unexplained fatigue, loss of appetite, and/or weight loss

  • Pelvic pain, which occurs at later stages of the disease

 

[9]Call Your Doctor About Colorectal Cancer if:

  • You notice a change in your bowel movements, experience bleeding from the rectum, or notice blood in or on your stool.

  • Don't assume you have hemorrhoids; your doctor will most likely perform a rectal exam, possibly a sigmoidoscopy, or a colonoscopy -- an exam that involves a long flexible tube inserted in your rectum.

  • You experience persistent abdominal pain, unusual weight loss, or fatigue.

 

These symptoms may be due to other causes, but they could also be linked to cancer.
